Benevolent Dictatorship

When Dave took over the leadership role in this club, I feel like we got a much needed boost of energy. Now I feel our book club back sliding into a quagmire of book/host/date selection. I would just like to put forth my dream scenario. Everyone post recommendations on this Blog as well as preferred month(s) for hosting. Then the benevolent dictator chooses the book/host/date for the proceeding 3 or 4 months and continues in such a fashion so that we always have the next 3 or 4 months planned. Then if someone decides later that they cannot host on the assigned date they can work that out with the benevolent dictator or swap months with someone. If this system were in place, I feel we could avoid our current problem of either meeting in 3 weeks or not at all in December. Also it would allow me to schedule things around book club if possible. I would like to know how everyone feels about this.

I agree that having at least a few months in a row is nice. As far as December, I am out of town the weekend of the 12th. I can take January or February. And I will offer up another suggestion later since the next book is mine. Perhaps we go bowling in December, Sven in January and me in February. No book for bowling. My book for January and Johnny's book for February. Then we need books from Sven, Dennis, Dave, Scott and Crosby . And we need months from Dennis, Scott, Crosby, Dave and Rob. Flush. Repeat.

That sounds good to me. Now we need to pick a date. Reba and I have been thinking of throwing a X-mas party on the 19th, so how about the 6th?

I have nothing to do in December, so whatever's fine with me.

Also, yes to more regimentation. (Is that a word?)

I'm throwing out a book: The Farther Shore by Matthew Eck. It's 176 pages of 11 point type with about 14 point kerning and 1 inch margins on a trim size of 8 1/2" x 5 3/8". Though it's rather secondary to these appealing facts, it's about war, and the guy lives here in KC.

And I'll take March.

i'm okay with the benevolent edicts. will gladly host january - any date is ok at this point. my book recommendation is 'up in honey's room' by elmore leonard, if that'll work. i have an alternate.

I think planning ahead worked well for us last year and it would be good to schedule our book club meetings.

I think I should be on tap to host again soon...Feb. or March? If not then, I would ask for later in the year, August - December.

In the middle there, sometime, should be going to China to adopt again.

My book is The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I want April.

Who wants to be the dictator? I was hoping it would be David, but I would be willing to take on the job. Any other volunteers?

I don't want to be in charge of anything. Rob, you're a fine choice. Or Buchmann. Or anybody as long as it's not me.
